Jefferson parish ,tug boat runs into an oil well in the early morning this morning, oil is shooting about 30 feet in the air in the Gulf of Mexico. the 4 inch pipe is making a mess closer to shore , no one knows who the damaged well belongs to.

we tend to agree a million gallons a day have been gushing from the Deep Water in the Gulf Of Mexico from bp s malicious   negligent  choices. that has and is continuing great loss of life and habitat. causing losses of unfathomable  concepts .

BP CONTINUES making more BAD moves,  FRAUD  as we suspected has been evident , SEEMS be the Vessel Of Opportunity ,on B P payroll or contracts. for the upper class boat and yacht, owners are receiving money ,for not cleaning up the spill, while fishermen go unpaid or become ill from close contact with the hazardous material as a product of ocean and dispersant as it mixes with the natural materials on shore..  sand eel grass high tide beach line  lies  where flotsam, sea weeds, and other material drift wood etc .   Hurricane at the full moon cycle is the worst case scenario for this B P crisis. .  we have made several attempts to get our commercial boat to the sight of oil contamination. we at @andreagailhistory.com have learned well the oil spill drill. the army of fishermen in Maine would like every fisherman and boat capable of helping from any where to come to our rescue of ocean side environment, as  soon as they could possibly be in the cleaning and recovering of toxic dispersant s laden with oil  contaminating our sea, it  is  one  ocean connected to the fresh water outlets and inland water ways.

michelle just turned 16 last week .she is pregnant.kids in trouble every where.

MAY BE WE SHOULD bury the leak , large granite rock stone ,barge full ,better than golf balls and tires  .build a large man made reef of stones ,under water pyramid . another crazy idea.

lots of talk in media about using only locals to help clean up the local area.local fishermen know the ports structure best, we should not oust people from away, local fishermen might not be enough to handle a large scale disaster of this magnitude,when large oil deposits invade the local area they should embrace all help local and away.this is no time to discriminate where fishing people are from.we need to get as many people cleaning up as fast as possible. makes no difference where folks that want to help are from.

the older fisherman have survived oil spills. not like this .we look at it as our sea to protect and take care of. the old guys  never had fancy PLANES equipped to spray  so called high tech dispersant . dispersant was saw dust. hay .sand  . the hay is best for the shore line and marsh land. it will adhere enabling the small man to bag or barrel it up .always use gloves recovering oil spill product. BEWARE dispersant in tar balls . effects of dispersant may be greater than oil exposure to skin and lungs. beware oil vapor kills. I ME have had experience with many type of hazard . quick lime. tanks big tanks .boilers bio mass and on .burn trash ,suck up sea water to coll boilers  . put chloride in the intake and out pipe line to kill mussels and other marine organisms ,that restrict water flow. so many hazard jobs we worked some died, in the tanks South Portland Tank farm, not many guys like working for Maine Coastal Service. you labor in the tank you go . lots of guys had multiple problems.drugs alcohol. two biggest enemy to man. I had a endorsement to drive the collection trucks. they treated me human . other guys were not so fortunate. tank farm cleaning is a health  sentence . working for Joe MOOSE was DIRTY DOG, he was a foreman. prik of a big oaf . he had no reguard for safe operations. the stack at cousins island , you can only imagine,why we worked at night most of the time. hazard man i was  we were.

USE SAW DUST to bind oil for easier clean up. any scale.lots of oil .lots of saw dust hay wood chips .kitty litter. oil absorbent rags . 24 foot shallow wide barge like skimmers to get in close, in the most delicate areas.

our boat could easily skim and recover oil in plastic drums. F/V PEARL could skim thousands of gallons of oil spill material. we need to clean up the oil in the fastest means possible, make no misconception we are at war on our Louisiana Mississippi Alabama and Florida shore line. this is a world concern.

Fishermen should be launched as fast and many little boats possible.small version skimmers are easily designed . small boats carrying Barrels to larger recovery barges. small boats could be pumped out in short time.

better off to let it clump up and suck it up with ease and low cost high recovery rate,  PRIME example  our 24 foot Gulf fleet , we have a 275 gallon fuel oil storage steel tank that sits on deck ,  we have a few other 55 gallon  and 30 gallon plastic drums , the coast guard safety approval sticker , we get inspected  regularly , twice last year inspected ,2010 twice inspected. we have a hydraulic line or pot hauler aka hydro slave, we have a 100 gallon separator tank , aka lobster and crab tank, capable of sucking up and storing oil ,quite a rapid rate in the right conditions, shallow draft, simple technology easily applied. fishermen have been using a deck hose for years. skimming is a slow process, in calm conditions. sludge pumps . flo max pumps , they can recover oil fast , we used big vac trucks in maine. you need to get small draft wide boats, bigger boats out side 3 miles ,all working together, FEDERAL WATERS , states water inside 3 miles, if you have a state or Federal fishery permit or license , you have the first option to clean oil up.to make up for fishery loss of income.

we worked at night,in the huge tanks at the farms pushing sludge squeegee,push broom to the same type truck and suction hose. I have seen the GLORY OF THE LOVE OF OIL MONEY clean up. in the fuel tanks of war ships at B I W with a pressure washer and VAC truck hose, clean rags wipe em out clean ,NAVY officer  would check the  quality of clean ,DIESEL for generators ,TANKs ,they could not send a navy man in the fuel tanks,hazzards

we were doing hazard duty .we knew it was a shitty job, we are sub contracted.guys I worked these jobs with had drug and alcohol problems .family woman problems,on the way to Bath from Portland to the yard .we drank beer ,smoked pot on the ride to the ship yard.in the back of the crew van going north east before the sun rise. they would brawl fight . CHAOS. one guy had a drivers license beside me. he would be designated to drive the crew van. he might have one  or two beers on the ride up. I was fortunate . had a CLASS 2 , maine truck drivers license , I drove the Haz Mat trucks. use to be classified  one  two  and three drivers in maine.one was tractor and trailer ,two was box truck ,dump truck,beer trucks, what I drove after dump truck.GOT MY class two AT   J A Mcbrady on Pleasnt hill road Scarboro. 30 days no computer,reduced to the media tv,and a pencil and paper,lots of thought for april. census people, signs april fools day, the turkey vulture that flew by at tree top level as they walked up the hard washed out rock road at the farm ,it was a big turkey vulture close as i ever watched one here.just as they left for the second time,they drove the caravan down the road the first time, they knew better the second. census workers have been here at least three times. population did not seem priority, more who owns the farm.who holds the mortgage. they used the CONFIDENTIAL word.  makes you wonder.

Believe i was the last one to see the Italian Gold on George’s Bank ,up in the North East corner. 1996  but im not sure. we  were on the CAITLIN,was coming on south east strong winds, i had the late night or early am tow. the captain of the CAITLIN gave me wheel and said  this was our last set or tow. we were heading to Portland Maine to unload our trip.  my orders  were tow , but if i thought it was getting to dangerous ,or high sea state wake the skipper and we will haul back the net  head  home for the storm, at around day light , i was at the end of the watch ,still towing east, the Italian Gold was jogging east also with his net on the reel. he looked over at me from less than a mile away, from his wheel house,he had a blue tee shirt on, he was watching us fish, i knew he was not going to Gloucester, they were watching us tow and Gloucester is North west from our spot on Georges, the man on watch  probably thought  if we were fishing ,he too would set out.   he had no idea this was our last tow. we knew weather was going to be bad, to bad to keep towing. Italian Gold from Gloucester kept going east of the CAITLIN, AFTER OUR HAUL BACK, WE PUT THE DOORS  ABOARD AND STARTED HOME, AFTER BEING AT THE HELM FOR 6 HOURS TOWING AND AN HOUR ON DECK PUTTING FISH  DOWN IN THE  HOLE .I  turned in for a quick two or three hour  nap. when i got up a few hours later, THE Captain  Tim on our Boat CAITLIN said the COAST GUARD got a fast or quick MAY DAY from the ITALIAN GOLD.  but the position was not given, the CREW has never been seen again, GOD REST MY fishing brothers, the memory and sight of the man in the blue tee shirt on the ITALIAN GOLD FROM GLOUCESTER will never leave my mind ,and how fast it happens, I knew they were not headed home to Gloucester, east was not the way home for the crew,  REST IN PEACE   ITALIAN GOLD  crew .GLOUCESTERMEN

we are up at 5  am , SET OUT in a straight line.

hauling back parted off the main wire ( just beginning the first mile)

Frank the great grappler did not get the gear ( Frank MaxWell he would keep his hand on the wire while the grapple went across the botton)  hung up but came loose we lost the chance to pick up the end parted.  did not get the gear in the tow,

had to steam back to the high flyer and poly ball on the other end .took  two hours to get back to the other End, No chance for two sets today, ( we do not set hooks for groundfish at night ,)

in the bunk early tonight   9 PM  off deck by 8  or 8  30  pm

been home from sword fishing trip on the Stephanie Vaughn. around the east side of South America for about 2 week trip cut short for me,went out on the Stephanie Vaughn second  trip, arrived back in San Juan Puerto  Rico  on The Miss Millie , go fishing on one boat and come back to port on a different boat is Rare but not uncommon. this is a long story .  been home at the farm in Southern Maine  around ten Days. Andrea Gail Skipper has been Calling for me  to go with him on the Death trap ship Andrea Gail. being south of the Equator for over a month, then Back in Gloucester and Maine is  an extreme change in Climate. Alfred has been in the City for the last Andrea Trip  3-91

His girlfriend knows she is pregnant with Alfred Pierre’s son . Alfred has to make sure his Girlfriend is OK in the Big City of New York,  a lot of information to absorb here , so PAY attention , there are subliminal messages in these writings , Alfred Knew he Had a 6 week old son when he set sail on the last Andrea gail trip. still paying attention, they told us for years on the boats ,old timers are always paying, attention. on the sea going fleet in New England they define pay attention as watch your  watch  shift, Febuary is unforgiving on Georges and Grand Banks, home of the killer waves gone rouge. watch means look out the windows . from experience it pays to pay attention in the Gulf of Maine, those who sleep in the wheel house chair on watch when others are in their bunks. you might kill every one on the ship. our skipper on trip     4 -91  he lets us drift at night in the gulf on George’s ,no one in the wheel house.  i had never been introduced to these procedures . no one on watch at night drifting blowing GALE WARNINGS,with a no big deal attitude, short laugh as the skipper tells me ,I could stay up  and take watch if I like.  Expressing my disbeleif ,i did not sleep much on Andrea Gail .spent the few hours of rest dragging myself out of the bunk going to the helm looking out for Danger, that we already were in danger from the moment we left Gloucester. two E P I R B S  neither one in the ARMED or on Position , life raft fastened solid ,could not DEPLOY THE LIFE RAFT WITH OUT CABLE CUTTERS ,a piece of the cable wire crimped over the raft, what a @#$%*&^ nightmare. update this  is why I BLOG BECAUSE IT TELLS THE TRUTH FREE TO A FEW million EDUCATED readers free ,  RANT FREE , im still mad about losing the Andrea Gail crew ,think about them every day , feb 12th  Andrea Captains calling for me to go fishing, I say no way am I GOING today,its north east GALE FORCE, ALASKA HAD SAVAGE SUNDAY IN  1991, Captain agrees its not a fishing day KIDS in Portland Maine have a snow or no school day. stay tuned more book notes to post . other notes ,watching Deadliest Catch .thanks discovery .BEST OF SEASON 5 ,interview with survivors at Crows nest, saw my Alfred Pierre picture on the wall at the crows nest ,Alfred Pierre holding squid on hooks. we also love the new Oprah Winfrey Documentary, ocean reef commentator.

Febuary  13th 1991

Frank Maxwell called  me ,he has been sleeping on the Captains couch on Munjoy hill Portland Maine, im late to pick them up to head for the Andrea Gail in Gloucester,Its  still blowing a Gale force wind, My kids have been sick at home with thier Mother for a few days, we stop at Ruskis and Rosies ,two local pubs,skipper’s girlfriend works the bar at Rosies still today. Frankie the skipper and i head out by car for Gloucester from Maine.takes less than 2 hours to get to the Boat at Rocky Neck East Gloucester. wednesday middle of the week .we drive the toll highway to Georgetown exit,we like to drive the back old route,Georgetown Ipswitch .Essex ,Raleigh. comes out just before Gloucester at Rust Island. Alfred ,Richard are on the Boat in Gloucester,Half the crew there. Captain looks around he has the crew start repairing hooks and making new ones while in port. get the gear work done. we  the skipper and i end up driving back to Maine, bad weather and being in love the Captain does not needf any more reason to not go fishing today.half the crew from last trip are not going for good reason . Dicky Roose does not agree with the Safety issues,Raoul does not approve of the EPIRB s not being active. Becky came to Get Dicky Roose in Gloucester from Maine. Raoul gets a ride to Portland with me and gets out to visit his girlfriend Nevada at the Port hole Restaraunt at Custom house wharf. i go home and visit my kids,take a short nap. we meet at wharf’s end later that night for a beer,the weather is getting worse by the minute ,its coming on snow and wind another North east Blizzard.

Thursday  Febuary 14th 1991 Valentines day . Snow storm ends take my son to help shovel an older couples driveway in Rosemont corner .Joe Lajoy

day one      friday february 15 th  1991 Portland  Maine ,  weather is cold and miserable. it has been blowing GALE WARNINGS  for days, portland has just got over a foot of snow , blowing northeast for two days. now the wind is out of the north west and the temperatures are below freezing.   the captain of the Andrea Gail   calls  . he wants to go to Gloucester  to work on the boat. ,  he says were not going to leave today ,. you know he’s full of EDIT  shit. you have a sick child at home  . he wants to go at 6 am when he called , you say  out of the question  no , and explain that the boat won’t be leaving until rosemont pharmacy fills  Erin.s presccription.    you pick him up at home  and head  to  uncle Andy’s bakery in mill creek south portland for  breakfast.  captain is from Barnegat light   N.J. he likes the Maine style coffee bakery restaurant.  the Waitress a sweet heart  too . on the ride from the  Eastern promenade in Portland ,   see three young high school girls on the Portland side of the million dollar bridge with their thumbs out hitchhiking  , Captain said pull over pick em up.   they were on their way to school at Mahoney  in mill creek .  unusual way to start a trip to Gloucester.

drove from Portland to Gloucester tonight, every Febuary for 18 years since 1991,   1984 was around my first time taking out fish at STAR fisheries ,GUS

OFTEN I COME TO THE OLDEST SEA PORT IN NORTH AMERICA.

WENT TO THE CROW’S NEST , get the usual    two  hats   two beers  . one for each

person that might accompany me ,in our travels,

looked at the wall from my usual corner perch at the bar ,close to the door.

she noticed they changed the front  windows. i knew ,she hadn’t been there in years.

the old key board for the rooms upstairs hasn’t changed since the crew of the Andrea

Gail left in September 1991 ,

the  old   key board   . guess you  would  have to see it , to know what i’m talking about

she  does paranormal.  sitting at the bar , said she was getting  feelings  ,

what she  does, going to have to talk to her again.  IT HAS HISTORY surely

lunch at the Pilot House , one of the Pratty girls works at the Pilot house. GLOUCESTER IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE  ,WATER WAS SO CLEAR Clean 2009

Paul left portland to go fishing on the Theresa Marie 4. january 22nd  2009 PAUL BROUGHT A SUITCASE ON BOARD with his belongings. they say never bring a coffin on the boat.

he died on the boat about the fourth day fishing jan 26th 2009  78 miles off shore.
talked to one crewman in the taxi on commercial street .that was on the  boat
he told me this quote I never lost a man on the boat before.

tried to revive him for a long time.

paul could not breathe and collapsed.

he died at sea ,. he has a large family from maine,

paul worked on the waterfront most of his younger days.

he has many friends from portland, our prayers to the family
